Timing is Everything
One factor that can have a tremendous impact on the way a separation plays out is timing. It is quite common for a couple that splits to have one person who has been contemplating separation for a long time, and another for whom the decision to break up is much more recent, or even imposed on them against their will.
The pace at which the process of resolving the legal issues arising from the separation takes place is crucial because, as British mediator Stephen Anderson points out, if you get the timing wrong and you’re more likely to have a bitter, drawn out, and expensive experience. Get it right, and you are more likely to experience something quicker and less expensive, not to mention less hostile.
